Lake Elsinore, CA
The city of Lake Elsinore has rich Spanish history dating back to 1797 and became, in the early 19th century, a haven for travelers like Mexican rancheros, American trappers and immigrants during the California Gold Rush to stop for the night and to water their animals. It was finally established as a city in 1888. Fast-forward to the 1920s, the lake hosted teams for Olympic training and high-speed boat racing and became a getaway of sorts for wealthy celebrities to escape the Hollywood scene. Quite a few of their homes still stand on the hills surrounding the lake; notably Aimee's Castle which belonged to 1920s early media icon Aimee McPherson. The lake ran dry in the 1930s but then refilled, following that pattern through the years and destroying many homes and businesses. After the 1980 flood, the city began a multi-million dollar project to ensure the water supply is maintained at a consistent level and any loss in property would be dramatically if not entirely negated by unpredictable water levels. As small as it may seem, Lake Elsinore is interestingly enough the largest natural freshwater lake in Southern California. While sometimes tinted green during the year from algae, common for any natural freshwater lakes, Elsinore is safe to swim in year-round and provides entertainment for boaters, water sport enthusiasts, and campers all over Southern California.
Today, Lake Elsinore’s population is climbing upwards of 62,000. The city’s median household income is $66,032 with a median property value of $306,400 (2017). The largest share of households pay taxes in the $3K+ range, with 62.7% homeownership.

As a former resident and an expert in Lake Elsinore real estate, I have a soft spot for the city. It’s where I lived through my teen and early 20s and it’s where I met my wife (and later proposed to her on the Lake Elsinore Levee Walking Trail). I’m happy to assist families coming to make Elsinore their home and families close their chapter in this wonderful city.
