Wildomar, CA

With a population of 36,932, the city of Wildomar is a quickly growing area in Temecula Valley. The Wildomar area, closely tied to Lake Elsinore in its history and lore, was purchased in 1883 and had a box car placed on the railroad a year later near what is now Clinton Keith Road, serving as the town depot. A map of the Wildomar townsite was drawn up in 1885, recorded with San Diego County.

The name Wildomar originates from the combination of the town’s founders: Wil (William Collier), do (Donald Graham), and mar (Margaret Collier Graham, Donald Graham’s wife and William Collier’s sister). Between 1886 and 1888, the town began building out with a new school, post office, railroad depot, hotel, shops, a park and church.

Though successful for a while, the railroad running through Wildomar was continuously afflicted by washouts and year after year, the tracks were often inoperable. Finally in 1935, the rail service to Wildomar was abandoned and pulled back to Pinacate, essentially leaving the area as a ghost town until the Temecula Valley Freeway was built in 1985. Once again, life was breathed into Wildomar with a new wave of popularity and interest.  July 1, 2008, Wildomar became the 25th city in Riverside County

Today, the estimated median household income in Wildomar is $65,325 with a median house or condo value of $318,387. The cost of living index in Wildomar sits lower than the 100 U.S. average at 81.6.

Wildomar schools fall into the Lake Elsinore Unified School District.
